GALILEO ACCESSES A GERMAN ARMED FORCES EXERCISE IN THE KARWENDELGEBIRGE MOUNTAINS

Two cameramen are standing in the heart of the Karwendel Mountains to document an impressive German Armed Forces exercise. For their own safety, they are not alone: soldiers are securing the film crew in the challenging terrain. The result is spectacular footage that was broadcast in mid-November in a segment of the television program Galileo.

The German Armed Forces' Mountain and Winter Warfare School is located at the Luttensee Barracks in Mittenwald, directly on the German-Austrian border. Here, soldiers undergo their training and are prepared to act as mountain guides in extreme weather and terrain conditions. A key component of this training is the Army Mountain Guide Course. This course also includes training in the safe operation of helicopters. For many years, the helicopter company HTM partnered with them, providing EC-135 helicopters for the exercises.

For the first time, Galileo filmed such an exercise. "The planning and execution involved considerable personnel and logistical effort," reports Jakob Meyer-Bender from the HTM heristo the week before filming. HTM the company , was preparing for the final stages of filming. By mid-October, everything was ready. The day began with a joint briefing for all involved at the Luttensee barracks. Afterwards, they headed straight to the mountains – and into the air. The camera crew filmed both from the terrain and from one of the two helicopters used.

Around 15 people from the German Armed Forces, HTM and Galileo were involved. The soldiers trained all day under realistic conditions, while spectacular footage was shot for an equally spectacular TV segment.

At the end of this eventful day, one thing was clear: the project was a complete success. "It was a fantastic collaboration, and we are delighted that we were able to realize everything so successfully," summarized Jakob Meyer-Bender. "Our special thanks go to everyone involved for the smooth execution, and we would be happy to showcase our expertise on television again in the future."
